Vitamin B1 (or Thiamine)
Vitamin B1 plays an important role regarding carbohydrate metabolism.
It helps storage of glycogen in liver and contributes to sustained efforts.
It is essential to prevent vitamin B1 depletion in high-performance horses (depression, performances decrease).
Vitamin B1 (or Thiamine) interferes in carbohydrate metabolism (metabolism of substrates acting in ATP synthesis).
Needs are estimated to 5 mg/kg ingested DM(total ration) for horses working and to 3 mg/kg DM for the other ones (NRC 1989 and 2007)
