Laminitis : inflammation of keratogenic hoof tissue.
Ponies are more susceptible to laminitis than horses ; furthermore, they do not regulate themselves like certain other more “hardy” horses.
Rations with a high cereal content (excess starch) predispose horses to laminitis, like rations with a high protein content. Rations must be determined on the basis of the horse and/or pony’s weight and work.
Spring grass and new autumn grass should be monitored in particular, and rationed so as to avoid excess consumption.
