Regarding breed : practical advice
Your nutritional approach should take into account the “hardiness” of your horse or pony’s breed; individual variations from 15 to 20 % are possible according to your horse or pony’s temperament, digestion, climate and general condition.
I have an elderly horse :
Horses begin to show signs of ageing from approximately 20 years old onwards.
At their stage in life, they need nutrition suited to their ageing body, able to prevent certain functional disorders.
Preference should be given to rations with a slightly higher protein content (Mature adjust® by Royal Horse type flaked feeds containing 13.5% crude protein per kilo) and added vitamin E and selenium so as to prevent muscle atrophy.
Feeds must be stored away from humidity, in temperate premises, protected from rodents, domestic animals, birds, and all sources of contamination or soiling.
