Just like his departure to the meadow, the return to the stable of your horse requires a time of preparation. A few precautions should be taken to ensure a smooth transition. You can find the right feed for your horse’s activity in the Royal-Horse feed range<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

TO UNDERSTAND THE FEEDING OF THE HORSE DURING A STAY IN THE MEADOW<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

When he stays in the meadow, the horse’s diet is quite different from the one he has in the stable. He generally has access to fodder (grass of more or less good quality) and probably hay for horses in addition if the grass is not rich enough. Depending on his activity during his stay in the meadow or on the weather conditions, he may have received in addition a concentrated feed ration (flakes or pellets for horses). If his stay in the meadow is synonymous with a rest period, his activity is reduced, so he may lose muscle mass. This is normal, it is just necessary to take care that he does not lose condition during this period, nor gain too much weight, which can be just as harmful for him.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

FEED TRANSITION: PREPARING THE RETURN TO THE STABLE<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

As for the start in the meadow, a transition of 8 to 10 days will be necessary for your horse to get used to his diet in the stable. After having eaten mostly grass, your horse will need to rebuild his intestinal flora. You can therefore introduce prebiotics and probiotics in his diet during this transition if they are not already present in the feed you have chosen. About ten days before his return, start giving him his regular food in small doses (distributed in several meals), which you will increase as you go along. Also reintroduce hay in his diet (if he did not have any in the meadow), since grass is very different from hay to digest. Be careful, the quantity of food must remain proportional to its activity, it will be necessary to increase the rations gradually at the same time as the resumption of work. Finally, deworm your horse once he is back at the stable, as life in the pasture predisposes him to the development of certain parasites.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

RETURN TO WORK SMOOTHLY<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The physical activity of your horse will also be modified as soon as he returns to the stable. After a more or less prolonged stay in the pasture, he will have lost muscle mass, but also breath.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
