Utilisations du cheval

A weapon horse (light cavalry) and saddle horse par excellence, it has become a remarkable competition horse (eventing, show jumping, driving, cross-country, dressage).

It is the result of crossbreeding between the Thoroughbred and the Arabian, practiced in France, particularly in the Limousin and South-West regions, where the Midi horse (a half-blood with a high proportion of Arabian blood) also played a key role in its creation. The first crossbreeding dates to 1820 and increased until 1860 under the direction of M. de Bonneval and then veterinarian E. Gayot, at the Haras, with the aim of obtaining a “Pur-Sang Français”. The first Stud Book was created in 1838. The amount of Arab blood varies enormously, as it can also be the product of a Thoroughbred and Anglo-Arabian mating, or of an Anglo-Arabian with an Anglo-Arabian. To be recognized as an “Anglo-Arabian” in France, he must have at least 25% Arabian blood. Other countries produced different varieties of Anglo-Arabian. These include Hispano from Spain, Malopolski from Poland, and Anglo-Arabs from Sardinia, Germany, Holland, and Sweden. The internationally renowned Anglo-Arab has been used to improve the French Saddle.
